Americani a Roma nel 1917-19

In 1917-1919 Rome was the pivotal centre of the relief and propaganda campaign promoted by the U.S. after Caporetto. The American Embassy, the American Red Cross and the Committee on Public Information brought to the discouraged Italians material aid as well as Wilson's new political creed. If their activity grew on an already established myth of America born with the first waves of emigration, it also favoured the rise of the myth of Wilson in 1918. However, the characteristics of their activity were partly responsible for the process which led to the clash between the representatives of the two countries at the peace conference and to the Fiume Crisis

Nel 1917-19 Roma fu il fulcro della campagna assistenziale e propagandistica promossa dagli Stati Uniti in Italia nel dopo-Caporetto. L'ambaciata americana, la Croce Rossa Americana e il Committee on Public Information portarono alle sfiduciate masse italiane non solo aiuti materiali ma anche il nuovo credo politico wilsoniano. La loro attivita' si innesto' sul mito americano gia' nato sulla scia dell'emigrazione e favori' l'ascesa dell'astro di Wilson in Italia nel 1918. Le caratteristiche della loro azione spiegano, pero', in parte anche il processo che portera' allo scontro tra i rappresentanri dei due paesi alla conferenza di pace e lo scoppio della Questione Adriatica
