The present paper is concerned with the model devised by Olivier Blanchard and Jean Tirol regarding employment protection and unemployment insurance. An overview of the foregoing model is followed by an investigation of the relation between Blanchard and Tirole’s employment protection reform, the March 2014 version of the Simplified Labour Code put forward by Michele Tiraboschi and Pietro Ichino and the Jobs Act. It is argued that a close link exists between the Blanchard and Tirole’s model and the Simplified Labour Code, with the complex relation between such model and the Decree implementing Enabling Decree No. 183/2014 that is also examined.
