Abstract

The architectural design of the beginning of the 21st century. The role, sense and tools of the graphical representation of development: the idea of the project, virtual architecture, light architecture, the idea of a city, the reality of construction Reports on the Departmental Scientific Research conducted by the teachers of the ICAR 17 area of the Design and Study of Architecture Department from the Faculty of Architecture of Rome Three show that today's architecture is: real and apparent, a sense and a role. The last developments of the theoretical research and of the application modes relating to the representation/publication of the new architectural proposals have produced major innovations in terms of the visual communication used for the project and of the materials used to build. However, architecture expresses itself through appearances: the spaces, signs, colors and volumes that compose it. These converse with their own surroundings and with the man that creates, uses and transforms such spaces to show his existence on this land. However, mankind perceives the volumes and spaces as history and tradition see them, or as images and 'virtual" publicity currently suggest so that the new language (or form) changes are not misunderstood. Every project requires such contemporary words, grammar and syntax for the togetherness of a place or occasion. There needs to be individual formalization and reinterpretation of the architectural materials; but, in order to 'communicate', this must always work within the architectural language. However, today language belongs to the hegemonic places and culture, the architecture and virtual reality it helps define - Representation was always a recognized moment to formulate and manage the forms and images of the architectural dimension of the geographical locations that were traditionally understood. But, the current technological tools used to elaborate and transmit the images, which are always more complex and self-referenced, often intervene rather autonomously on the ways and techniques used for the representation of the image that it creates; therefore imposing a standard or model that also go beyond the architectural dimension of the geographical locations that are traditionally understood. These new fields of application seem to be more able to shape communication and to colonize the lands that appear form under a certain profile.
