The relationship of the medieval lawyers with their doctrinal texts was very different from today: focusing on the meaning of the past, of collective science, and of multiple versions in the composition of medieval legal commentaries, I’ll try to point out some of the thorniest issues posed by the editions of medieval legal texts, in a diachronic perspective.
