Abstract

In AH 5.2.2-3 (probably also in 5.3 and 5.5) and 5.31.1 to 36.2. Irenaeus argues with a group of opponents inside the Church, that is also known from the tractate de Resurrectione from the circles around Justin and that explicitly denied the resurrection of the flesh, the most obvious sign of a dualistic though-structure and ideology. The paper intends to show that both Irenaeus and his opponents founded their positions on an articulated exegesis of passages from Paul's letters which are systematically and coherently interpreted by both sides.
