The aim of the article is to analyse the political itinerary of Adriano Olivetti and his technological, aesthetic and social laboratory. The text shows the genealogy of Olivetti's "gentle Fordism", where religious and humanistic roots are proposed as counter-forces necessary to mitigate the "involuntary uprooting" that the use of the new Fordist work organisation imposes on workers and, more generally, on communities.
