The terminological process is by its nature onomasiological: given an object, a definition (conceptualization) will be offered and on the basis of this a denomination (the term). This type of process, accepted in the determination of the terminology of the hard sciences, encounters many difficulties when it is applied to the social sciences, due to the different conceptualizations that different approaches of analysis can give of the same object, phenomenon which results in denominative variation (synonymy).

Abstract

The terminological process is by its nature onomasiological: given an object, a definition (conceptualization) will be offered and on the basis of this a denomination (the term). This type of process, accepted in the determination of the terminology of the hard sciences, encounters many difficulties when it is applied to the social sciences, due to the different conceptualizations that different approaches of analysis can give of the same object, phenomenon which results in denominative variation (synonymy).
