“‘Trembling between one’s eyes and the truth’: distanza e visione secondo Virginia Woolf”

This paper focuses on Woolf’s use of visuality as a cognitive tool of investigation into reality and on the relevant and remedial distance implied in any form of seeing. By illustrating how Woolf widely and variously thematizes visual distance in some of her short stories, specifically in The Symbol and The Searchlight, I mean to show that its cognitive value greatly depends on its double function which both separates while simultaneously connecting the subject and object of vision.
