The article is part of a broad research, still in progress. It was inspired by the preeminent interest of the library universe in sustainability and the 2030 Agenda. The writer focused on a single goal, Goal 5 of the 2030 Agenda “achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls”. It seeks to understand the role of the public library as well as social and cultural aspects within the multidimensional concept of gender equality. This contribution aims to do a partial reconnaissance by processing theoretical and empirical studies that have investigated the library with regard to the “female universe” and the everyday life of women and girls.

Abstract

The article is part of a broad research, still in progress. It was inspired by the preeminent interest of the library universe in sustainability and the 2030 Agenda. The writer focused on a single goal, Goal 5 of the 2030 Agenda “achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls”. It seeks to understand the role of the public library as well as social and cultural aspects within the multidimensional concept of gender equality. This contribution aims to do a partial reconnaissance by processing theoretical and empirical studies that have investigated the library with regard to the “female universe” and the everyday life of women and girls.
