We firstly survey the empirical and theoretical issues regarding market access, then we turn to the ongoing multilateral negotiations with the aim of offering a "guided tour" through the large body of (formal and informal) proposals, notes and discussion papers covering 3 years of negotiations. Finally, we focus on a major negotiating issue – tariff reduction commitments – and simulate some alternative hypotheses regarding possible outcomes of a final agreement. For Canada, the European Union (EU), Japan, and the United States (US), we compare the results of different tariff cutting formulas in terms of both welfare and trade flows.

Abstract
We firstly survey the empirical and theoretical issues regarding market access, then we turn to the ongoing multilateral negotiations with the aim of offering a "guided tour" through the large body of (formal and informal) proposals, notes and discussion papers covering 3 years of negotiations. Finally, we focus on a major negotiating issue – tariff reduction commitments – and simulate some alternative hypotheses regarding possible outcomes of a final agreement. For Canada, the European Union (EU), Japan, and the United States (US), we compare the results of different tariff cutting formulas in terms of both welfare and trade flows.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
