The waters of mountain rivers are often utilized for human activity(irrigatio, aqueducts, waterpower, etc.); these uses favour frequently the plain lands, in caparasison to mountain people. Moreover, as for Aterno river from Molina to Raiano, new anthropic derivations are realised, even if the river regime, the origin of water resources and their variability are insufficiently studied. These expensive works cause often dangerous environmental alterations. In the Aterno river, the ancient artificial canal named “Vuccole” represents an important hydraulic-archaeological heritage, which results very impoverished by the new derivation works.
