In this chapter the fossil record of terrestrial mammals during the Early and Middle Miocene is reported. The fossil record for this time span is definitely poor. Only three localities, Burgio in Sicily, and Sardara and Oschiri in Sardinia, giveg us information on the distributions of emerged lands and only in Oschiri we deal with an assemblage of vertebrates whilst in the other two localities only one species of mammal has been collected in marine sediments.
