The paper concerns some problems of Rufinus' translation of Origen's Homiliae in Leviticum, with special regard to the relationship between the Latin text and the extant Greek fragments. In particular the text considered is the first chapter, second paragraph of the fifth homily on Leviticus, the Greek version of which is extant in Philocalia. The omissions and alterations of Rufinus' translation do not seem to depend on theological preoccupations but are rather caused by mentalities and become revealing of different historical times, education, attitudes.
