In this chapter we are going to study some of Venezuelan people´s superstitions, although we could include the whole of South America and even Spain in this study due to our shared history. These superstitions have been passed on from generation to generation –some of them are practical, such as the one consisting in letting salt fall so that one is protected; some are unusual such as giving someone evil eye or curing them. There is also a custom consisting in touching wood for good luck and carrying charms for protection, etc. Venezuelans often take part on many rituals to reduce risk of death.

Abstract

In this chapter we are going to study some of Venezuelan people´s superstitions, although we could include the whole of South America and even Spain in this study due to our shared history. These superstitions have been passed on from generation to generation –some of them are practical, such as the one consisting in letting salt fall so that one is protected; some are unusual such as giving someone evil eye or curing them. There is also a custom consisting in touching wood for good luck and carrying charms for protection, etc. Venezuelans often take part on many rituals to reduce risk of death.
