Tourism accounts for many countries, including Italy, as one of the key sectors of the economy. Given its considerable environmental impacts, several tools have been proposed to improve its environmental sustainability. The article, an in-depth analysis of the article “The tourism sector: economic and environmental impact”, focuses on the tools available to reduce the environmental impact of tourist accommodation, with particular reference to the European Ecolabel brand (EC Regulation No 66/2010). A deep review on it s spread and some observations about the ability of the instrument to improve the environmental performance of tourism facilities are carried out.
