The New Testament and the Third Epistle to the Corinthians

The pseudepigraphic Correspondence between Paul and the Corinthians (also called Third Epistle to the Corinthians) rewrites 1Cor 15 and, in such way, attributes unequivocal affirmations to Paul on the content of the faith in the resurrection from the dead, interpreted as “resurrection of the flesh”. Therefore, it represents an implicit exegesis of the Pauline text; at the same time, it disqualifies the alternative exegesis proposed by the first Gnostics in the area of Antioch (probably Saturnilians). The creation of this epistle also shows a noteworthy freedom in the use of pseudepigraphy in the proto-orthodox field and attests that the process of canonization of the Christian Scripture (the future New Testament), both as for number of works as for normativeness, was afar from its conclusion.

La pseudepigrafa Corrispondenza tra Paolo e i Corinzi (detta Terza lettera ai Corinzi) presenta una riscrittura di 1Cor 15 e, in tal modo, attribuisce a Paolo affermazioni inequivocabili sul contenuto della fede nella risurrezione dai morti, interpretata come “risurrezione della carne”. Si tratta di un’esegesi implicita del testo paolino, che al contempo squalifica le esegesi alternative proposte dei primi gnostici di ambiente antiocheno (probabilmente Saturniliani). La creazione di questa lettera mostra anche una notevole libertà nell’uso della pseudepigrafia in campo proto-ortodosso e attesta che il processo di canonizzazione della Scrittura cristiana (il futuro Nuovo Testamento), sia quanto a numero di opere sia quanto a normatività, era lungi dalla sua conclusione.
