The connection between literary studies and linguistics has always been controversial, especially regarding academic foreign language teaching. This article aims to demonstrate the connection between the two. The study involves a comparison of various texts from contemporary German literature with their Italian translation in order to analyze the linguistic variety (especially the diatopic, diastratic and diaphasic level) of the German language. The contribution focuses on contrastive linguistics and translation comparison neither to define the competences of a good translator nor to evaluate literary translation but to show how this comparison can help students to learn more about contemporary German literature and contemporary German language. In addition, the article aims to increase awareness of difficulties in literary translation.
