This essay examines the evolution (since the classical works of Mathiez, Bloch and Kantorowicz) and the present condition of the researches on the history of political rituals in the 19th and 20th Century. The conclusion is that the huge development of this field of studies does not meet with an unambiguousness of intentions, concepts, interpretative visions; and therefore that there is a strong risk of a sort of interpretative “babel”, a condition in which everyone talks a different language, without any common real understanding. The scholars of political rituals seem convinced they are studying the same object; in fact, they refer – and often without being really aware of this – to deeply different (and opposite) phenomena, as means of consent and religious experience. The essay attempts to individuate the problems that are still open, as well as some benchmarks and some shared solutions.

Abstract
The essay attempts to individuate the problems that are still open, as well as some benchmarks and some shared solutions.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
