The idea of a new urban settlement on the island of Amager, following the high housing demand, is dated at the beginning of the Sixties, but since the end of the ’80s Copenhagen was suffering problems related with slow economic growth, high rate of unemployment and growing debts. Copenhagen was not a very attractive city for families and companies. Nowadays, Ørestad is considered one of the most livable and appreciated urban settlement of Europe and internationally oriented companies are settled in this attractive area, midway between the airport and downtown Copenhagen. The paper intend to explore the feasibility factors that made possible the implementation and the success of the project.

Abstract
