The school context plays an essential role in making early language learning successful. This chapter explores a model of contextual variables to consider which factors are most relevant for a successful start to foreign language learning. ELLiE school characteristics are compared and contrasted here, drawing on data from two ELLiE schools to explore how contextual variables may have a positive effect on the linguistic achievement and motivation of children. -
