Il titolo Poter agire fa da filo conduttore alla lettura di tre luoghi kantiani: quello antropologico, quello storico ed infine quello teoretico. In ambito pragmatico das Können, il poter fare ed agire, si esprime nella civiltà e nel costume, dunque nell'ethos. L'io posso in questo contesto si lega alla prassi dell'uomo prudente. La Prima lettura mette in evidenza quegli elementi fondamentali della prudenza – presenti in Locke, Voltaire e Kant – i quali rendono possibile il passaggio dalle passioni dell'io alla comunità; si tratta della sollecitudine per gli altri e del benessere comune. La Seconda lettura è dedicata allo scritto del 1786 Inizio congetturale della storia degli uomini e al commento antropologico fornito da Kant alla Genesi veterotestamentaria. Dalla lettura dello scritto del 1786 nascono prospettive molto interessanti per guardare alla comunità mirando non più al benessere (prudenza), ma al riconoscimento dell'altro come fine in sé (morale). La Terza lettura si concentra sul tema dell'azione libera spostando la visuale dagli ambiti antropologico e storico a quello teoretico. La lettura muove dall'analisi della dialettica trascendentale e cerca una possibile soluzione all'antinomia della libertà nella visione compatibilista dell'agire.
The book concerns three Kantian fields: the anthropological one, the historical one and the theoretical one. In pragmatics das Können, the power of doing and acting is expressed in civilization and customs, therefore in ethos. In this context the I is related to the praxis of careful man. The first reading highlights the fundamental elements of carefulness – that are present in Locke, Voltaire and Kant – which make possible the passage from passions of the subject to community; it is about attentiveness for the others and for the common wellbeing. The Second reading is dedicated to the writing of 1786 Conjectural beginning of human history and to the anthropological comment given by Kant to the Genesis book. From the reading of the writing of 1786 very interesting perspectives arise to look again at the community, not aiming at wellbeing (carefulness), but at the acknowledgment of the other as end in itself (moral). The Third reading is about the theme of free action, moving the view from the anthropological and historical fields toward the theoretical field. The reading starts from the analysis of transcendental dialectics and it searches a possible solution to the antinomy of freedom in the compatibilist view of action.
