AbstractThe Roman University “La Sapienza” organizes every year, in the summer time, two days dedicated to vocational guidance (Open Doors in The Sapienza University) for the students who finished high school and want to go to University and have to choice university courses. This program has the aim to encourage a fully conscious choice of studies. Students that have finished high school are asked to rate and discuss in group their thinking about University choice. We investigate gender differences in choicesFrom the students who joined to the programmme in the year 2003 were selected 93 males and 93 females Although students were near the beginning of the University, the majoirity of them hadn’t decided yet. Gender differences are found. Girls retain to need the help of parents and teachers more than boys, and are more motivated for emancipation goals than performance goals.
