After briefly analyzing the historiographical debate on the crisis of liberal citizenship and its close link with the state-nation, the article analyze: a) the dynamics with which in Chile, during the period of the military dictatorship of General A. Pinochet, all rights of citizenship are destroyed; b) the difficulties for the restoration of these rights during the periods of transition and democratic consolidation; c) how, in those periods, at the same time emerge new forms of conceiving and practicing the idea of citizenship. Particular attention devote to the proposals of the student movement and their active and participatory citizenship practices that burst onto the political scene in the new millennium.
Dopo aver sinteticamente analizzato il dibattito storiografico sulla crisi della cittadinanza liberale e del suo stretto legame con lo Stato-nazione, il saggio ricostruisce le dinamiche con cui in Cile, durante il periodo della dittatura militare del generale A. Pinochet, tutti i diritti di cittadinanza vengono distrutti, le difficoltà per il ripristino di tali diritti durante le fasi di transizione e consolidamento democratico e analizza come, in tali periodi, emergano contemporaneamente nuove forme di concepire e praticare l’idea di cittadinanza. Particolare attenzione dedica alle proposte del movimento studentesco e alle loro pratiche di cittadinanza attiva e partecipativa che irrompono sulla scena politica nel nuovo millennio.
