The research analizes the passage concerning the metaphor of pestilence in the Basil’s homily In psalmum I and in the translation of Rufinus. The parallel study of the two texts points out some characters of the Rufinus’ translation: elimination of peculiar Greek features, Romanization, moralism, ἐνάργεια, pathos. The role of the school in the translation of the Greek text in Latin language and in a Roman cultural context is pointed out.
