Abstract

Building in the built: a subject that is not new, but it is certainly a topic that retains all its relevance, since the current cultural and political directions are increasingly oriented towards reducing the "consumption of soil" and we can presume that this type of interventions will be those prevailing in the next years to come. In Rome, this theme is certainly not new; reuse, transformation, adaptation of existing architecture is a phenomenon that has examples throughout the ages. The three architectures depicted represent interventions of contemporary architecture in the historical context of Rome. The "Serra ex-Piacentini" in the "Palazzo delle Esposizioni", the Hertziana Library, the Ghella offices. These project have in common the point of view of the authors on how to deal with in the context, respecting it and drawing inspiration from it, rejecting the idea that it is necessary to freeze the past, but thinking that we can deal with it responsibly. The story of these interventions starts from the project to get to the construction and tries to unveil some background. So not just "magazine" glossy images in which the architectural work appears in all its splendor, everything is solved and shown at its best. The goal is to describe the process of the project and the construction site, then tell how we came to a certain result, the difficulties encountered, what possible solutions were evaluated, the reason for certain choices.
