Explicit criticism of general monolingual dictionaries is extremely rare even though they are often used in everyday life or in secondary and higher education. Linguists and lexicographers seem unconcerned with them. They devote themselves to dictionaries relevant to their own research areas and they usually address their articles to colleagues. Actual dictionary users belong neither to linguists’/lexicographers’ target groups, nor do they write critical articles about dictionaries, in a user-to-user perspective. Even though there exist several proposals concerning dictionary evaluation criteria, it seems that in recent years research into dictionary use has prompted relevant critical impulses towards analysing general monolingual dictionaries. In the field of dictionary didactics practical dictionary criticism, including recommendations, is still avoided. In this article the author after analysing recent implicit and explicit dictionary criticism about general monolingual dictionaries, draws some conclusions, and makes concrete proposals concerning the active involvement of the users of general monolingual dictionaries

Abstract
In this article the author after analysing recent implicit and explicit dictionary criticism about general monolingual dictionaries, draws some conclusions, and makes concrete proposals concerning the active involvement of the users of general monolingual dictionariesI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
