This essay intends to show the importance of the verb ‘to have’ in order to describe human nature. When we say that Homo sapiens has a body, language, consciousness and life, we notice a spread, anyway the non-identity, between Homo sapiens and his essential properties. The same spread, or non-identity, that always exists between who owns something and the owned thing. Thanks to Émile Benveniste’s observations about the origin of the verb ‘to have’ from the form ‘y is to x’, ‘mihi est aliquid’, we want to investigate a model of inherence that differs completely from the canonical model subject/predicate.

Abstract
This essay intends to show the importance of the verb ‘to have’ in order to describe human nature. When we say that Homo sapiens has a body, language, consciousness and life, we notice a spread, anyway the non-identity, between Homo sapiens and his essential properties. The same spread, or non-identity, that always exists between who owns something and the owned thing. Thanks to Émile Benveniste’s observations about the origin of the verb ‘to have’ from the form ‘y is to x’, ‘mihi est aliquid’, we want to investigate a model of inherence that differs completely from the canonical model subject/predicate.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
