The article focuses on Plotinus’ views on memory and recollection in 4.3.25ff. it is argued that Plotinus distinguishes two types of memory. M1 is the memory of acquired objects drawn from perception; M2 is a higher type of memory which does not require an acquired object (since M2 concerns those things which the soul already possesses as part of its nature) and does not entail time. The article aims to set Plotinus’ views on memory against the wider background of his account of soul and knowledge.
