Due to a series of events that have highlighted the lack of integration and the socio-economic marginalization of populations with immigrant background, European countries have converged towards the civic integration, which requires migrants to learn the language, the civic values and the culture of the residence country. The aim of this work is to offer an overview of such policies by making a systematic review of actual legal texts and academic literature. My focus is on Italy, as one of the Southern European countries with the largest migration inflows.

Abstract
Due to a series of events that have highlighted the lack of integration and the socio-economic marginalization of populations with immigrant background, European countries have converged towards the civic integration, which requires migrants to learn the language, the civic values and the culture of the residence country. The aim of this work is to offer an overview of such policies by making a systematic review of actual legal texts and academic literature. My focus is on Italy, as one of the Southern European countries with the largest migration inflows.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
