After the defeat of the Nazi-fascist alliance in World War II, a first ‘new wave’ of Far-Right movements emerged in Europe -as well as elsewhere- in the ‘long 1960s’ and especially in the 1970s’ as a challenge to both the ‘New Cold Order’ and to the Revolutionary Leftist Movements. Subsequently, the Neo-Liberal Era, has seen – of nor prompted- the emergence of another wave of Far-right movements in the ‘Old continent’ after the Cold War and particularly in the XXI century, both in the Western democracies and in the former Socialist countries in Central and Eastern Europe. Whilst the trajectories of these movements are profoundly different and rooted in the specific history of each European country, the election of Trump as President of the USA in 2016 has given momentum to the emergence of an ‘international new Right’, with many common issues, and a mostly shared discourse and political language. In particular, even if the main focus of the Right is traditionally on internal issues, there has been a growing convergence on many foreign policy issues, especially those related to migration from the Global South, including the Middle East and Africa. Against this backdrop, this paper, after a short historical introduction on the ‘far Right’ in Europe, will look briefly at the main ideological and policy tenets of this ‘constellation’ of movements, with a particular focus on the position vis à vis the main Arab questions, from the never-ending Israeli-Palestinian conflict, to the post Uprisings situation, and others. Given the abovementioned diversity of the movements, the paper will offer a comparative approach, with a special attention towards France and Italy.

Abstract
Given the abovementioned diversity of the movements, the paper will offer a comparative approach, with a special attention towards France and Italy.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
