Fano schemes of k-linear subspaces of projective hypersurfaces and complete intersections have been object of study since a long time; in particular, non{ emptiness conditions are known. I will report how the non{emptiness of Fano schemes for projective hypersurfaces has been a tool in showing unirationality. Moreover, I will explain a numerical condition, depending on the dimension and the multidegree, for non{ emptiness of Fano schemes of k{linear subspaces of complete intersections in a projective space.
