Shakespeare located a number of his plays in famous Italian cities and referenced many others: Venice, Verona, Padua, Mantua, in the North of the country, but also Rome, Naples, Messina in the centre and South; and no wonder he did: the cultural capital of Renaissance Italy was highly esteemed in Elizabethan England and all over Europe. Today the Shakespeare industry is returning the favour, promoting the destination image of Italian sites thanks to international screen adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays shot on location and through TV documentaries filmed in Italy which design special Shakespearean itineraries for tourists and travellers. This chapter explores the case studies of the adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, shot in Verona, and of Shakespeare in Italy, a documentary which was produced by the BBC in 2012 for the Olympic Shakespeare Season.

Abstract
This chapter explores the case studies of the adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, shot in Verona, and of Shakespeare in Italy, a documentary which was produced by the BBC in 2012 for the Olympic Shakespeare Season.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
