The essay contains a reflection on complex society and on the prospects for an education that makes citizens critical and active. First of all, some of the characteristics of the complexities that leads to a social metamorphosis are underlined. Then, we face some risks and some challenges that arise from the absence of reference points to the growth of inequalities, from the impact of technologies on daily life to the increase in human mobility that has created increasingly plural societies. Finally, an educational perspective is proposed within an open democratic society.
