“Set out in search of architecture, we have arrived at the domains of simplicity” wrote Le Corbusier in 1929. What value does this beautiful phrase by one of the undisputed masters of modernity have today? Should we file it away among the thousand aphorisms of a bygone era or could it still make sense to pronounce it? Today, even though we know that many of the certainties of the time have collapsed and that “complexity” is undoubtedly the paradigm of the reality in which we live, what meaning and space does “simplicity” have in architecture? Why has its research never completely exhausted itself and has it always retained its own space for expression? These are the fundamental questions that the author intends to answer. In contrast to much of the narrative around architecture that follows the logic of the opposition between complexity and simplicity, as if they were the two terminals of a hypothetical oscillation of taste or the alternation of fashions, the book proposes a cross-reading, a journey in search of the characteristics and role of simplicity in the age of complexity, of the places where it appears, of the ways in which it manifests itself, of the reasons why it is pursued. The gaze ranges over multiple levels of investigation: from the figurative to the methodological, from the technical to the theoretical, without forgetting the influences that on this theme come from art, philosophy and science.

Abstract
The gaze ranges over multiple levels of investigation: from the figurative to the methodological, from the technical to the theoretical, without forgetting the influences that on this theme come from art, philosophy and science.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
