This chapter aims to examine particular characteristics of children’s illustrated books in Italy at the present time. With this object in mind, it starts from an historical overview of children’s literature in Italy, highlighting the role that the image has played over the years in such literature. Touching on comics this chapter focuses on the world of illustration which over the last decades has become a real phenomenon in publications for the young in Italy.
