Changing trends and dynamics in international migration in Europe, as well as in Switzerland, are briefly assessed in this contribution in light of the learning needs of teachers working on issues of intercultural competences, particularly in vocational and educational training (VET). The starting point for this investigation is participation in and the activities carried out for the Lifelong Learning Leonardo da Vinci multilateral I-VET project in 2012-13. The methodology relies mainly upon a visual ethnographic approach to different urban settings and some previous qualitative research. A change in migration patterns, including issues of migrant transnationalism, is briefly explained against the current backdrop of integration and learning practices.
