The present study focuses on the intensifying-evaluative reading of the Russian epistemic indefinite kakoj-to ‘some; certain’, which can be “coerced” into an intensifier in specific contexts, such as evaluative copulative predicates (cfr. rus. Èto prosto sumasšestvie kakoe-to vs eng. It’s a total chaos (OpenSubtitles2016)). Through a usage-based approach, I will try to identify which syntactic-discourse patterns are associated with the intensifying use of the indefinite, which classes of nouns can fill the argument slots of the patterns in question and which other contextual clues support the intensifying-evaluative reading of the indefinite.

Abstract
The present study focuses on the intensifying-evaluative reading of the Russian epistemic indefinite kakoj-to ‘some; certain’, which can be “coerced” into an intensifier in specific contexts, such as evaluative copulative predicates (cfr. rus. Èto prosto sumasšestvie kakoe-to vs eng. It’s a total chaos (OpenSubtitles2016)). Through a usage-based approach, I will try to identify which syntactic-discourse patterns are associated with the intensifying use of the indefinite, which classes of nouns can fill the argument slots of the patterns in question and which other contextual clues support the intensifying-evaluative reading of the indefinite.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
