The essay examines the sound expressiveness of the Divine Comedy, through the analysis of its metaphors related to the field of sound, melody or harmony, and of the passages in which the poet records and reports the listening to songs, hymns or melodies; it focuses on the most significant passages related to these sound aspects and traces Dante's musical images back to the general domain of poetry and of its aspects related to the sound texture.

Il saggio esamina l’espressività sonora della Commedia, attraverso l’analisi delle sue metafore relative al campo del suono, della melodia o dell’armonia, e dei passaggi in cui il poeta registra e riferisce l’ascolto di canti, inni o melodie; si sofferma sui brani più significativi relativi a questi aspetti sonori e riconduce le metafore musicali dantesche al dominio generale della poesia e dei suoi aspetti specificamente sonori.
