Living on the edge denotes that peculiar condition between physical existence and legal non-existence that characterizes the increasing phenomenon of irregular migration worldwide. The irregular immigrant, like a non-person, lives on the edge in the immigration country as far concern his primary needs and his social recognition. His status is questioned, his rights are limited. His dreams of a decent life remain far away on the horizon. Living on the edge well portrays the situation of irregularly resident immigrants in Italy, a country of emigration only recently become country of immigration. (...) The scope of this paper is to draw a sketch of irregularity in Italy.
