The purpose of the present paper is 1) to offer an introduction to the life and thought of Robert Vischer against the background of the speculative and existential legacy of his father Friedrich Theodor Vischer; 2) to propose an in-depth exploration of the constellation of empathy first theorized by Robert Vischer in his doctoral thesis Über das optische Formgefühl. Ein Beitrag zur Aesthetik published in 1873; 3) to undertake an exploration of the resonances of empathy in artistic fruition and production; 4) to emphasize in the conclusions the visionary value of Robert Vischer's reflections intended more for 20th- and 21st-century artists and theorists than for his contemporaries.
Con il presente paper si intende 1) offrire una introduzione alla vita e al pensiero di Robert Vischer sullo sfondo dell‘eredità speculativa ed esistenziale del padre Friedrich Theodor Viescher; 2) proporre un approfondimento della costellazione dell’empatia teorizzata per la prima volta da Robert Vischer nella sua tesi di dottorato "Über das optische Formgefühl. Ein Beitrag zur Aesthetik" pubblicata nel 1873; 3) intraprendere un’esplorazione delle risonanze dell’empatia nella fruizione e produzione artistica; 4) sottolineare, nelle conclusioni, la valenza visionaria delle riflessioni di Robert Vischer destinate agli artisti e teorici del 20º e 21º secolo, piuttosto che ai suoi contemporanei
