The volume consists of the Proceedings of the Second Conference on the Aurelian Wall, organized in October 2017 by the Universities of Rome “Sapienza”, Tor Vergata and Roma Tre, in collaboration with the Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni culturali. This volume covers the complex historical and structural palimpsest of Rome’s walls beginning in the early fifth century, when the structure was substantially rebuilt under the auspices of the emperors Honorius and Arca- dius and the general Stilicho, and concluding with the restorations of Pope Nicholas V (1447-1455). The seventeen studies presented, preceded by an introduction and followed by the concluding notes of Paolo Delogu, are collected in two distinct sections, the first with more general presentations (Fonti, tecniche e riusi / Sources, techniques and reuses), the second (Cronache dalle mura / Chronicles from the Walls) with specific and unpublished analyses on reduced sectors of the walls, on some of the gates and on service structures, ordered in topographical succession. Overall, this is a substantial contribution to the history of the Aurelian Wall in Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, which substantially revises our understanding of the archaeology and architecture of the structure, often with the aid of direct surveys and the application of stratigraphic masonry analyses.

Abstract
Overall, this is a substantial contribution to the history of the Aurelian Wall in Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, which substantially revises our understanding of the archaeology and architecture of the structure, often with the aid of direct surveys and the application of stratigraphic masonry analyses.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
