This paper aims to examine the genesis of the editio princeps of Cassiodorus' Variae, printed on 1 May 1533 in Augsburg by the humanist Mariangelo Accursio (this work, as known, updated the partial edition of Cassiodorus' epistolary collection by the German preacher Johannes Cochlaeus and constituted its vulgata until the end of the eighteenth century). The phases of Accursio's interest in the Variae are studied in the light of the relationships he established in Rome with Goritz and other German humanists, then with the Fuggers and the Hohenzollerns, which allow us to formulate more precise hypotheses on the manuscript sources used by the publisher and particularly on the codex Valentianus 211 (this manuscript came into Accursius' hands not before his second stay in Valencia in the late spring of 1528).
