Dagli archivi: La natura è di casa”/ “From the Archives: Nature at Home

The home is a frequent theme in the Triennale Milano international exhibitions, appearing in a wide variety of forms and revealing differing intensities of relations between the domestic space and nature-world. When it is caught up in the symbolic and spatial sphere of influence of the home, nature is subjected to practices of intimacy just like all the other social, economic, political, aesthetic, and emotional contents of living/inhabiting. Kept at arm’s length or sought out, feared or missed, nature was, and still is, the protagonist of a project of domesticity, in terms of familiarity and exclusion, complicity and control, reification and projection, normalization and emancipation. Roaming freely among different editions, periods, and authors, with no ambition to be either exhaustive or meticulous, we are offering a taste of the Triennale Archives, organized in six thematic sections, corresponding to some of the ways in which the home and nature-world have sought or excluded each other, overlapped or merged in the last hundred years.

La nutrita ricorrenza con cui il tema della casa torna nelle mostre della Triennale dispiega una varietà altrettanto ampia di forme e di intensità di relazioni tra lo spazio domestico e la natura-mondo. Quando coinvolta nella sfera di influenza spaziale e simbolica della casa, la natura è infatti sottoposta a pratiche di intimità, alla stregua di tutti gli altri contenuti sociali, economici, politici, estetici, affettivi dell’abitare. Allontanata o cercata, temuta o rimpianta, la natura è stata ed è protagonista di un progetto di domesticità, in termini di familiarità ed esclusione, complicità e controllo, reificazione e proiezione, normalizzazione ed emancipazione. Muovendosi con libertà tra edizioni ed epoche, autori e autrici, senza intenti di esaustività o capillarità, si propone un assaggio degli archivi organizzato per sei tracce tematiche, corrispondenti ad alcuni modi con cui la casa e la natura-mondo si sono cercate, escluse, sovrapposte e mescolate in questi ultimi cento anni.
