This book is a commented translation of two sources: Polish legends about Vilnius, collected by the historian V. Zahorsky, and their (modified and supplemented by a preface) translation into Lithuanian, made by the publicist P. Vingis. The Russian translation takes into account and comments on the discrepancies in both sources. The collection includes 45 tales and legends describing the history of Vilnius from pagan times to the twentieth century. The book is equipped with a preface by the translator, analyzing the discrepancies between the two sources, comments, and illustrations. The foreword to the book was written by the famous Lithuanian philologist Professor Tomas Venclova.
