The relationship between the sections of biblical glosses in the Leiden Glossary and its closest relatives is examined, taking into account the distinction drawn by E. Steinmeyer between ‘main column’ and ‘marginal’ glosses in the common ancestor of the Leiden Glossary [L1] and the glossary known as Rz [K1]. The glossaries of the Leiden Group may be classified according to whether they present the ‘marginal’ component or not, and, where they do, according to whether they present the material in an orderly unitary arrangement or not. The question of which of these categories may reflect more closely the original state of affairs is investigated. Among the glossaries considered is the series of biblical glosses in Milan, Biblioteca Ambrosiana, M. 79 sup., fols. 81r–89r [AI]. In this manuscript, the treatment of glosses originally containing a vernacular (Old English) interpretation demonstrates similarities to processes seen in a group of glossaries closely related to Rz [K1], among them Leiden, UB, VLF 24, fols. 100r–104r [L2] and Cambridge, UL, Kk. 4. 6, fols. 41r–44v [C].
