The paper analyzes the project for the adoption of a European Central Bank Digital Currency, which represents one of the most relevant examples of the of process of digitalization of financial services. Special focus is given to the potential risks of financial exclusion deriving from the adoption of the digital euro and to the specific design options envisaged to minimize these risks and promote inclusion.
