The paper deals with an otherwise less-known aspect of the Transylvanian events of the Revolution of 1848–1849, namely, the clashes between Ital- ian soldiers and the Romanian armed peasants’ groups led by Avram Iancu during the Hungarian war of independence, in a case study that allows us to define more precisely some characteristics of the revolution in the Habs- burg Monarchy and the clashes between national groups throughout 1849. The revolutions of the 19th century, especially those of 1848, are approached here as a struggle between freedom and absolutism, national sovereignty and monarchical legitimism.

Abstract
The paper deals with an otherwise less-known aspect of the Transylvanian events of the Revolution of 1848–1849, namely, the clashes between Ital- ian soldiers and the Romanian armed peasants’ groups led by Avram Iancu during the Hungarian war of independence, in a case study that allows us to define more precisely some characteristics of the revolution in the Habs- burg Monarchy and the clashes between national groups throughout 1849. The revolutions of the 19th century, especially those of 1848, are approached here as a struggle between freedom and absolutism, national sovereignty and monarchical legitimism.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
