This book is aimed at examining the features of English in the European institutional context, through the textual release of annual reports that have become the genre most adopted for the communicative purposes of EU bodies. By analysing these texts, the aim is to explore the structure and discursive strategies of this genre, as well as to focus on its general organizational features in different European institutional domains. The focus is to consider how English in institutional documentation can really express or be perceived by the readership as the language of European ideology and identity, in so far as it fulfils two main objectives: firstly, the transfer of ideology-driven policies and secondly, the successful channelling of European knowledge to recipients and thus the construction of a solid or weak European identity.
