This chapter explores the historical development and current relevance of cooperative clubs in Italy, focusing on their role as community centers and their evolution amidst social changes. Cooperative clubs, originally rooted in labor movements and rural communities of the nineteenth century, historically provided spaces for gathering, political debate, and social, recreational, and cultural activities. Although they initially thrived during periods of social unrest, their relevance diminished after the 1960s due to evolving social habits and economic dynamics favoring commercialization and urbanization. Using data from Italian cooperative associations and case studies, this contribution aims to reconstruct the current landscape of cooperative clubs.

Abstract
This chapter explores the historical development and current relevance of cooperative clubs in Italy, focusing on their role as community centers and their evolution amidst social changes. Cooperative clubs, originally rooted in labor movements and rural communities of the nineteenth century, historically provided spaces for gathering, political debate, and social, recreational, and cultural activities. Although they initially thrived during periods of social unrest, their relevance diminished after the 1960s due to evolving social habits and economic dynamics favoring commercialization and urbanization. Using data from Italian cooperative associations and case studies, this contribution aims to reconstruct the current landscape of cooperative clubs.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
