In all religions there is an open and burning issue: the space that women occupy within them. At the UN Conference on Women (Beijing, 1995) for the first time women ‘of religions’ raised the issue, observing that prejudices against the female gender are rooted in all religious cultures. And yet, they are present and more numerous than men: in the cults of the Christian religions, in the Catholic religious practice, in the precepts of the Jewish religion, in the rites of Islam, in the practices of the Hindus and in the Shinto ones, etc. However, when the most important and top positions of responsibility are analyzed, they are invisible or their presence is not very significant. Here the focus is on the monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) and, within the Christian religion, on the Catholic one. Today the Catholic Church is struggling to move forward on the women's issue. However, reflection on the role of women in the Church is one of the problems it is called to confront, prompted by the outside world but, above all, internally by the believers themselves. Progress has been made during the Pontificate of Pope Francis (Canta 2022).
